Before the Service
- Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before practice starts
- Turn on the power using the switches on your left under the desk. (Go front to back with one or two seconds between each one)
- Turn on the sound board by flipping the power button on the back right of the board.
- Recall the appropriate scene (By worship leader).
- The first 5 minutes of practice are set aside for doing initial line checks with each channel, one at a time. Set the gain so the signal is peaking around -15db. Once this is done the gain should be left alone unless absolutely necessary.
- After line checks are done you can work on adjusting monitor mixes.
- Once they begin practicing:
- Tweak the volume, equalizer, and fx for a good overall mix.
- Take notes of who is leading each song and if there are any vocal or instrumental solos.
- Try moving around the sanctuary to get an idea of how the sound varies in different areas of the room.
- Use the black headphones connected to the sound board and the solo function when adjusting eq’s.
- Check the order of service and determine the number of mic’s needed. Typically it’s 1 headset and 1 handheld mic.
- Get the required number of mic’s prepared.
- Batteries in the green dispenser should be good for the headset mic.
- Batteries in the yellow dispenser can be used for the handheld mic.
- Double checking battery levels is never a bad idea.
- If the handheld mic looks like it will be used a fair bit, consider using stronger batteries.
- Turn each mic on. Test to make sure you are getting a signal from each mic and then turn them off. Ensure the mic channels are muted. Give the headset mic to the person giving the sermon. Alternatively, leave the mics on the communion table.
- Use Spotify or another device to play prelude music if there is no live music.
- As the service is about to start, start recording on the USB flash drive on the sound board as well as the camcorder, then stop playing prelude music.
During the Service
- Mute / unmute channels as needed.
- Monitor the sound for any echo or feedback and adjust to eliminate it.
- Tweak the mix and eq’s to keep the proper levels.
- Adjust volume sliders based on varying leaders or solos.
After the Service
- Stop the recording on the sound board and camcorder.
- Save any changes to the appropriate scene if desired.
- Reset all sliders on the board to ‘0’
- Start shutting down the sound board by selecting ‘Setup’, then scrolling to ‘Shutdown’.
- Make sure the projector is turned off, then start cutting the power by flipping the switches under the desk from back to front, waiting two seconds between switches. Do the back 2.
- After two seconds, and once the sound board says it is ready, you can flip the power switch on the back of the board.
- Turn off the last two power switches under the desk, again waiting 2 seconds between each switch.
- Collect the mics that were used and remove the batteries. Put away the mics.
- Test the batteries and place them in the appropriate tray or container.
- Above the green “Button Batt” arc: go into the green dispenser.
- In both the “Button Batt” and the green section of the main arc: go into the yellow dispenser.
- If touching the yellow section of the arc: put in the box for keyboards, mice, and remotes.
- Put away stage mics, cords, and monitors if needed.
- Lock and close the door to the tech storage room.
