That’s not much to look at is it? Definitely not what we non-desert people would think of as a good source of shade – it is small and normally not very dense.
You will still feel super hot but you can get your head and maybe shoulders in some partial shade. In the heat of the day this is enough to keep you just a few degrees cooler and those few degrees can often mean the difference between life and death.
Does this remind you of the green fields? (See my post on that here) The Bible writers are thankful for the green fields and the shade not because they allow for an easy life – on the contrary! God’s word tells us we will suffer and have to endure. They are thankful because they know that when life gets hard and we think we can’t go one step farther, God is there with just enough to help us keep taking that one more step again and again.
